Who is Toasty?
Toasty is a s’mores cookie in monster form. Its golden brown butter dough is packed with crunchy honey graham pieces and chocolate chunks, and its top is covered in marshmallows that turn toasty brown in the oven. Picture sitting around a campfire with your barkada, then picture all of that fitting in your hand.

Toasty, starting another story
How Toasty became a monster
It started with a marshmallow that wanted to see the stars. Every night it looked out the kitchen window and dreamed of campfires, night skies and ghost stories. So one evening, it climbed to the very top of a mountain of cookie dough, as high as a marshmallow could go.
What it didn’t know was that the mountain was headed for the oven. The heat rose, and the little marshmallow’s top turned golden, then toasty brown. Down below, a crew of honey graham pieces and chocolate chunks cheered it on. By the time the oven door opened, they weren’t a marshmallow, some grahams and some chocolate anymore. They were one warm, gooey campfire monster: Toasty.
Toasty still dreams about real campfires. It even has a favorite spot picked out: Minalungao National Park in General Tinio, right here in Nueva Ecija. (Toasty says it’s going for the river view. We know it’s going for the campfire.)
A quick history of s’mores
S’mores have been a campfire favorite for about a hundred years. Girl Scouts in the United States were already sandwiching toasted marshmallows and chocolate between graham crackers in the 1920s, and a recipe called “Some More” appeared in a 1927 Girl Scouts guidebook. That’s where the name comes from: one bite and you’ll want some more. National Geographic dug into the real history of s’mores, and it’s a fun read.
Here in the Philippines, graham crackers have their own fan club. They’re the backbone of mango float, the chilled graham, cream and mango dessert that shows up at so many Filipino birthdays and Christmas parties. Toasty’s graham crunch will taste very familiar.
